Lisa and I are in mourning for our baby wrens.
Over the past couple of days I have noticed a gradual loss of young in the nest box and a Magpie looking very guilty! Today we came back from work to find the nest bare! There is no way for the young to have fledged as they were only a week and a bit old, there is only one explanation!
A sad story indeed, John, but how could a Magpie get access inside the nest box?

I think Lisa and I have just about got over it! I had noticed the young wrens were hanging out of the hole because of the heat, so the Magpie may have taken advantage of that, or they fell out and the bird swooped in then. Either way, it`s an example of nature I suppose.
