The resulting frogspawn is also a source of easy food for birds such as Blackbird and Magpie, two birds I have witnessed tucking into the jelly-like substance, a good source of protein for the trials that lie ahead for the birds in their breeding season.

I love it!! My "pond" is a stock tank because my dog adores swimming. Some day I hope to have an in ground pond so I can listen to the frogs!
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteThankyou. By putting a pond in your garden you will attract all sorts of nature, not only frogs, but newts, toads, birds and dragonflies.

Great to see another sign that Spring has arrived. I check my pond every day. Nothing yet though they didn't arrive until 24th last year. No sign of my newts yet either.
ReplyDeleteHi John,
ReplyDeleteYes, Spring is certainly `springing`! I see from your blog that you now have some frogspawn, so they have arrived a day earlier than last year!

So love these photos. I look forward to the coming of the great frog cacophony here.
ReplyDeleteThankyou Raining Acorns. These frogs were doing their best to drown out the noise of everything else!

These photos put a smile on my face. In fact, I suddenly have a need to hop on over to see that lovely pond. Our ponds are still quite frozen.
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteThe frogs seem to be smiling too! We have been having some lovely Spring weather in Britain over the past few days, but they are forecasting frosts again at the weekend!
