Just splashing around
A drake Tufted Duck having a splash about in the waters of Eye Green LNR. Of course, he looks like he is having fun, but he was not just enjoying the early Spring sunshine, he was keeping his feathers in tip top shape in time for the important business of the breeding season. Here he is making sure those feathers are just right-
Maybe he was just having fun, who knows!?

He certainly looks happy! And clean too!
ReplyDeleteThat`s the main thing John, as long as he`s clean!

Gotta look good for the ladies! Love his intense yellow-orange eyes, the black feathers make them stand out even more.
ReplyDeleteYes Wanda, the ladies will pick the best looking ones to breed with, he just has to make sure he is one of them!

Hi Grace,
DeleteYes, who knows indeed. He did look like he was enjoying himself, or was that just me putting a human perspective on it?!

Great shots John! I always like enjoy watching the birds splash around. A few months ago I was watching a Tern bathe and it was actually turning 360 degrees in the water; it was really funny.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tammy,
DeleteWe have got a while to go before we see any terns in our part of the world, but when they do arrive I will look out for that behaviour!

Love these "duck in action" photographs!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan, too kind!

I reckon they enjoy it too lol
ReplyDeleteGreat to watch them isn't it.
Hi Keith,
DeleteIt`s enjoyable to watch them when they really go for it, like this one was!

Great last image John.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike,
DeleteThank you. Yes, the first two are a bit rubbish, I just thought they were a bit of `fun`!

Smiling for the camera in the first one I think :-) A boy's got to look smart when he's looking for a wife!
ReplyDeleteHi Jan,
DeleteHe is trying to look his best, but will it be good enough!? ;)

Lovely images John.. great little birds to watch..
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew,
DeleteThey are always doing something, although when I normally try and photograph them they are constantly diving!

Hi John,
ReplyDeleteAlways an informative and visual delight to be found at your superb blog site.
And no, I wont attempt silly duck puns. Because that would be just fowl of me.
Have a peaceful week, my friend and thank you for your supportive comments on my blog. Much appreciated.
With respect, Gary
Hi Gary,
DeleteThank you for your kind comments as usual.
That`s just quackers making a pun like that!
I try to be supportive of my friends and always will be!

A delight to see! Animal behaviours are often anthropomorphised (blimey!, but this chap certainly looks like he is enjoying himself.
