Not a great photo, but pleasing to see a Grey Partridge pair the other day just past Deeping High Bank in south Lincs. This bird really seems to be vanishing quickly and these two represent my first sighting of the year, a sad state of affairs considering it is April!
That is a rare sight John.
ReplyDeleteToo rare these days Roy!

To think how common these were when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteNot seen one in years John.
I suppose that we are lucky in the fact that they are relatively 'common' in our neck of the woods Keith, but I struggled a bit this year to see one!

Well done John! Sadly, as you said, they are becoming a rare sight. I was lucky enough to see a pair last year on farmland which has been very sympathetically managed wildlife wise. If only all land owners would get the message.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan!
DeleteI don't really know what the answer is, unfortunately all farmland birds are in free fall thanks to the dwindling areas of farmland and the way farms are now managed to feed an ever growing population!
Very depressing.

Great view! (Though I have to confess that I strain my eyes to see the second - still not sure if I do :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Britta!
DeleteYou have got good eyesight if you can see two, as there is only one in the photo! ;) The other one was tucked very well down in the grass.

Well seen John...I see plenty of Red-legs on my commute to work but they have been bred by the shooting estates.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew!
DeleteYes, I see plenty of Red-legs, as you say, bred for the shooting industry, but sort of 'wild' hereabouts.
