Today has been a good day for visible wader passage in the Peterborough area. Maxey GP had its fair share of waders passing through and dropping in for a feed and wash before heading off on their migration to their breeding grounds. These included a rather lovely Grey Plover in breeding plumage (in America these are known as Black-bellied Plovers), Bar-tailed Godwits (both male and female), a Greenshank (all of these three I managed to photograph) and also 3 Dunlin and a fly-over Wood Sandpiper.
Also, on the Nene Washes there were plenty of displaying Black-tailed Godwits, Common Snipe and Redshank.
All of the above photo`s were Digiscoped using a Canon Powershot A640 and a Kowa TSN-883 `scope with a 30x eyepiece.
Quite a haul in the birdwatching department, I'd say!
ReplyDeleteHi Raining Acorns,
ReplyDeleteYes, for a land-locked area like Peterborough it was quite a day!

ReplyDeleteLovely catch for the day,stunners.
ReplyDeleteJohn.
Hello John.
ReplyDeleteIs a Wader Day the birding equivalent of an Away Day? OK, I won't give up the day job!

An excellent day John and great photos too! Pretty well the only places anywhere near me to see waders are Draycote Water or Otmoor. I hear there have been Bar-tailed Godwits at Draycote in the last few days but I haven't been able to get there unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteHi Kah-Wai,
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a good day!

Hi bazza,
ReplyDeleteNo, I wouldn`t if I was you! ;)

Hi ShySongbird,
ReplyDeleteThanks For those kind words. Barwits have been all over the place this weekend. There was a record I read of 5,500 of them flying by near Kent!
