The youth of today!
Young ducks and waders are undeniably (and I hate to use the word!) cute. They are just balls of fluff, but are very obviously birds, unlike other birds where the very young look like something from the Jurassic period! On my recent visit to Cley, two species of young bird were in good numbers, Shelduck and Avocet. The photos below are of a group of young Shelduck, very feisty youngsters that were constantly `attacking` the adult Avocets when they got too close and a couple of videos show some young Avocets, a group of three fairly young ones and a single that was nearly fully grown.

Those are definitely some undeniably cute youngsters;) I've never seen a young Avocet before, cool to watch!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tammy, glad you enjoyed the videos!

ReplyDeleteThanks Gillian, very adorable, aren`t they?!

Adorable! Gosh, I hope I get to see some of this when in Norfolk in a couple weeks.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, forgive my burdening your post with this, but I saw one, perhaps two, of the bluebird fledges today! Big now, and able to feed themselves, but still standing there, mouths open, demanding (and mom and dad complied). Yippee!
I am sure there will still be a few about Susan, make sure you go to Cley or Titchwell, you are bound to see something!
DeleteThank you for the update on your fledgling Bluebirds, keep them coming! Glad to hear that they are doing okay.

Hi John,
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you know it, I left a really long comment and blogspot crashed at that very moment. Didn't even have time to copy and paste and try again.
So, not one to duck out, I just wanted to note that those ducks are adorable and this fowl article was so cute!
And you know what? Folks around here call me "duck", evidently an endearment. Or maybe they are trying to warm me of low-flying objects.
Take care, my friend.
Gary. Right then, try again.....
Hi Gary,
DeleteThank you for trying again!
My Grandad used to call everyone `duck`, it was years before I realised that my Grandmas name was Joyce, not Duck! I am pretty sure that it is a term of endearment, either that or they are constantly throwing things at you! ;)

Hi John...they are so "cute" ; }
ReplyDeleteOne of them is a lively fella flapping away!!
Enjoy seeing the birds in action thanks for the video!!
Grace
Hi Grace,
DeleteThank you and glad you liked my attempt at filming, don`t think David Attenborough has anything to worry about, do you?! ;)

Young Avocets and Shelducks always look like impressionistic daubs on the canvas that will eventually develop into the immaculate works of art which the adults undoubtedly are. So "Aaaww!"
ReplyDeleteVery true John! I love to see really young Avocets before their bills have curved, isn`t nature great!

ReplyDeleteThanks John,

Hello John. In that second video you can see the perfect way that 'adaptation for purpose' has occurred thus vindicating Darwin!

Definitely the 'aawww' factor, delightful photos and videos John. I love Avocets but living where I do am never privileged to see them.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan,
DeleteThank you. I am sure that at the rate they are spreading you may get some in your neck of the woods soon.
J
Cute is definitely the right word! :) Lovely captures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Omi,
DeleteYes, I don`t really like using the word, but other word is there for these?!
