My photos are less than satisfactory, being on the wrong side of the lake, but I am posting them as a record (again!), but Mike Weedon has kindly allowed me to use one of his stunning photos to show you what the bird should look like! Click on Mike's name above to see some more shots.
As can be seen from above, my shots do not do the bird justice, but below is one of Mike's photos. Much better!

What a cracking bird John.
ReplyDeleteI'm still after a Black Tern, and you go and get a White Winged one! lol
It was indeed Keith! We haven't had any Black Terns this year, just this 'special' one!

Hi Peter Yes I agree, it is better to post as a memory even it may only be for yourself. I have only ever seen one of these birds in Europe. Well done. Thanks to Mike also for his photo.

Hi Margaret,
DeleteThank you. I know it may seem a bit daft, but the bird was worth it! It was very kind of Mike to allow me to post one of his shots.

Wow! That's a stunner John.
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Roy, where were you?! ;)

Very well done John!! You're on a roll with great birds at the moment :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos on the Black-necked Grebe on the last post!
Thank you Jan, yes, although it is definitely quality, not quantity as far as most of the birds are concerned!
DeleteThank you again, I was quite pleased with the BNG photos.

It's a bird I have seen quite often on my patch but have never captured with the camera... very acrobatic and wonderful too watch.
ReplyDeleteGreat images John... thanks for sharing.
Lucky you Andrew! I have only seen the bird once before and never in my area! Extremely difficult to photograph, as my photos show!
