Juvenile Shag at Ferry Meadows CP

Finally a bird to add to my PBC year list of 2010! Having waited for what seems an age to add a `tick` this bird was found by Don Gardner yesterday morning.
Number 169 for the year and (hopefully) counting.

  1. Would be interested to know how you differentiated it from the many Cormorants at Ferry Meadows?

  2. The size was the most obvious thing. The Shag is a lot smaller than any Cormorant there. Also, you can make out the yellow bill, which is a feature of a juv Shag. This may sound obvious, but it just looks like a Shag. Hope thus helps,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my humble blog.
