Short-eared Owl

A few weeks ago it was a lovely frosty morning, the sun was shining and this Short-eared Owl was still present on the Nene Washes.

A memory of the sun is all I have as the rain lashes the windows and it is as dark as night in the middle of the day.

Use to see them around Newborough.

    1. Hi Roy,
Yes, I have had enough of this wet stuff now!
I did see an SEO along Speechley Drove earlier in the year, but only the once.

  5. It sounds as if the whole of England (and Wales) is under siege with rain! Your short-eared owl is welcome reminder of the delights that await when it stops.

Thank you. Yes, in the month of April we have had 165% more rain than normal, but we are still in drought!

This weather is beyond a joke now. The winds have brought my lovely old Lilac tree down :-(

Thank you, I have been lucky in seeing this owl a few times now.
I am sorry to hear about your lilac tree, a lovely thing to have been destroyed by this awful weather!

I am lucky, but there have been a few this year in my area, hopefully good numbers will return next winter.

    1. Hi Gillian,
Thank you. I have been fairly lucky with owl sightings this year, seen all 4 main breeding ones in this country.

  9. Dear John,
owls are so lovely birds - I like their big eyes and the way they toss slowly their head. And I like Owl's "wisdom" in Winnie-The-Pooh :-)

    1. Hi Britta,
you feel like their eyes are `piercing` you when they fix you with their stare, I dread to think how a vole or mouse feels!
