These are the last of the photo`s of the Long-billed Dowitcher from Sunday. The bottom one gives a rough idea of the size of the bird when compared to the Oystercatcher behind.
A top bird which gave the assembled crowd a good show!
....but we need to know how big an Oystercatcher is to make a usefull comparison By the way, LBD is a lot easier to say than Long-billed Dowitcher which sounds totally made up! Click here for Bazza’s Blog ‘To Discover Ice’
Hi Bazza, An Oystercatcher is a bit bigger than a Coot, obviously with longer legs! Hope this helps!? It is a bit of an odd name, there is a Short-billed Dowitcher aswell! J
Hi Grace, Thankyou. I hope the different poses show the bird off a bit, it was better `in the flesh` so to speak. This poor little bird was being pushed around a bit by others, but seemed to hold its own! J
Lovely images of a beautiful bird..
