In the Pink

Returning to Eye Green LNR when the sun was out seemed to be a good idea. The Pink-footed Goose was still present amongst the Greylags and the sun coupled with the proximity of the bird lent itself to getting these `better` shots.

Although I leave the judgement to you, dear reader.

  3. Do these birds sleep in the position of the first photo? I saw a female Mallard in that position for about 15 minutes recently!

    1. Hi Bazza,
Geese and ducks tend to sleep like this, they are safe on the water, although they doze rather than sleep.

  7. Lovely images John.. I just happened to have an image of a flock of these lovely geese on Flickr a couple of years ago and got an email from the BBC asking if they use it for their Autumnwatch website.. I was so chuffed.

  10. Sweet! The first picture looks as if he's hiding that beautiful red bill instead of showing it off like he should!

  11. John, these are amazing shots! I just love how ducks and geese "sleep" like that (often with one eye open too!)
    Lovely light and reflections too.

    1. Hi Liz,
Thank you for those extremely kind words! I wonder if that`s where they got the expression to sleep with one eye open ( so you can see danger coming )?

    1. Thanks Larry,
It took ages for the bird to stop snoozing, but when it did I managed to get a couple of decent shots before it tucked its bill under its wing again!
