A jangle of Corn Buntings

What is the group name for Corn Buntings? There is an `Exultation` of Larks, a `Murder` of Crows, a `Charm` of Finches, but I have no idea what the term is for Buntings! I think it should be a `Jangle` of Buntings because of their song.

A `Jangle` of these lovely birds were seen the other day numbering 110, which, given the state of the birds current situation is quite a feat. I have seen these birds before in an area called Newborough Fen near Peterborough, but never in such large numbers, they must have had a good breeding season last year and thrived due to the mild winter we experienced here.

A `Jangle` of Corn Buntings, do you think it will catch on?

  3. Great to see they had a good breeding season. There doesn't seem to be a collective noun for them, not that I could find anyway so Jangle it will be. Lovely photos.

    1. Hi John,
Thank you. I couldn`t think of the proper term for the group name, so thank you for educating me in the collective noun. :)

  4. Superb shots of this rare event John.
How about a "Stack" of Corn Buntings, get it "Stack". Oh perhaps not.

  5. Yes, Jangle is exactly right although Roy's suggestion made me laugh :-)

How lovely to get photos of Corn Buntings, I keep hoping to see one...maybe this year...I do live in an area where I should see them but of course their decline has been dramatic.

Incidentally, there was a report of a brief sighting of a Glossy Ibis at Draycote on Sunday which is a mega!!! I really must try and get there again.

    1. Hi Jan,
Thank you. Where I grew up the fields were full of these lovely birds, but now there are none, their fall has been catastrophic, but hopefully there are better times to come.
I am sure that you will get to grips with a Glossy Ibis soon. They really are lovely birds.

  6. Hi,

Some very nice pictures of an iconic bird species right there. I am fortunate to have a decent population of these Janglers up on the Berkshire/Wiltshire downs nearby. The only problem being, I have to travel from my usual patch to see them. Let us hope their population starts to thrive once more.

    Kind Regards

    1. Hi Tony,
Thank you for your visit and comment. I am fortunate in that these birds are quite literally 5 minutes from where I live, so I don`t have to go too far! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a population boom of these lovely birds.

  9. Ok lets join in, I think a 'Street'of or 'Party' of Buntings, hope you get my strange drift.

Jangle sounds great John, as are the pictures.

    1. Hi Mike,
Thank you. When I `googled` to see if there was a name for a group of buntings, it did come up with party bunting, so perhaps that`s what it is!? ;)
Looks like `Jangle` is getting the nod of approval.
