An early morning stroll along Central Drove, The Nene Washes in freezing, but dry conditions gave me a chance to photograph this obliging Kestrel and even try to to see if my digiscoping gear was still still useful. The images above are all taken with the new(ish) camera and the one below shows the digiscoped effort.
The scene when I reached the end of the drove after the sun had risen at the start of a cold, but perfect winters' day.
These are really great images! I have said before (and I may say again!) not everything has to look like an image in a field guide! And this is all the better for that. I really like these.

Very nice work, John. You can tell the Kestrel is busy scanning for breakfast and this is the image we usually see of one - perched where we can't make out his beautiful details and then he springs from the post so fast we can't focus our optics and then he's gone. But thanks to you, we can enjoy a chilly scene of a handsome bird from the warmth of our dens. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wally,
DeleteYes, he was on the look out for his breakfast, but I stepped a bit too close and he was off!
