Back to my normal sub-standard of photography today with a record shot of a truly stunning bird seen at my local patch of Maxey gravel pits for a whole 15 minutes, before it flew off, not to be seen again.
This summer plumaged Spotted Redshank was a welcome addition to my PBC year list which has now limped to 166, but does include 2 local lifers as well as some rather scarce local birds, such as the aforementioned Spotted Redshank. A bird that I have only seen twice before in the local area and not for a couple of years, so this was a very welcome sighting.
Definitely a stunning wader in its full breeding colours. Nice one John.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed Frank, a shame that my photo does not do it justice!

A cracking bird John. You're getting some good ones up there.
ReplyDeleteIt was Keith! Just lucky I guess! I have missed plenty of others too!

Your photography is not at all sub standard John! Photographing birds is so frustrating. Constantly moving, uncooperative....it would be so much easier if our interest was in huge stationary buildings...but nowhere near as much fun ;-) Seeing and recording these gems, that's the most important bit and you did. Well done!
ReplyDeleteTalking of photography, your Reed Warbler photos, which I somehow missed commenting on :-( were excellent and what a difficult subject they are! I've only ever managed terrible ones. Well done again :-)
Thank you Jan! I feel more frustration than fun at times! ;), but it is of course, about seeing the bird and remarking on its' behaviour/markings, etc.
DeleteAs ever, you are too kind about my efforts.

A great bird John.
ReplyDeleteI have only seen one once at Titchwell.
It was Roy. I suppose I have been lucky in seeing a few, but Titchwell is definitely a good place too see them reliably.

Hi John. It's worth clicking on your photo for a larger view but I had to pop over to Bing to see just how beautiful this bird really is!
ReplyDeleteBazza’s Blog ‘To Discover Ice’ is back. Click here for thrills!
Thanks Bazza, but I am horrified that you needed another picture to look at, was mine not good enough ;)
DeleteThe bird really is a beauty, isn't it?!

Lovely to see John...
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Andrew!
