Holme Great Grey Shrike
This bird is distant for me when the sun shines and at all other times it is too dark and gloomy, hence the 'noise' in the above photograph. I will endeavour to get a better shot, until then you can see the bird in more glory at Roy's or Mike's respective blogs HERE and HERE. Enjoy.

Hi John. You are very generous to your fellow Bloggers and they do have very nice pictures but I like the out-of-focus background in your photo. I suppose it's difficult to get real depth-of-field in a distance shot?

DeleteA case of scratching backs etc etc! Depth of field is a difficulty when using a zoom lens, basically, with the one I have you don't get depth of field!
