Grey Heron

  1. Along with gulls and magpies they fit nicely in my "remarkable birds if we saw them less often" category - add swans to that too.

  5. I have only ever seen herons either flying or standing bolt-upright. Maybe in your first picture the bird is swallowing a fish?

      No, the Heron in the first photo is getting ready to strike at a fish. He was unlucky on this occasion.
