Young Blue Tits
It's been a while coming, but finally we have had some young Blue Tits coming into the garden to be fed by their long suffering parents. It seems to have been a fairly good year for fledged youngsters as we have had up to ten coming in, although I am sure that these are two different families as I have seen at least three different adults accompanying them.

Similar situation here John. Feedback I've received suggest that brood numbers may well be lower than expected at around 5 per nest this year depending on location. Lack of large juicy caterpillars seems to have been the problem here hence the constant visits to the feeders to help the youngsters fledge.
ReplyDeleteHi Frank,
DeleteI think the cooler, wetter weather when the birds were in the nest didn't help matters in the feeding department. Luckily for the birds around me, I keep my feeders well stocked!

Actually John I have noticed that the Blue Tits around my feeders seem to have doubled their activities recently. It's costing a fortune to keep topping up all the food! Hooray for the local Farm Shop,

I think as Frank said, the birds seem to be using bird feeders more than finding 'natural' food. With us feeding them they have had a good year, maybe it would be different if we weren't?

Here in Colorado at 6200 feet elevation, we don't have the variety of birds you do, sadly. Red-Winged Hawks, Hummingbirds and Stellar Jays, my favorite. And a few others, so I am delighted to see your photographs.
ReplyDeleteHi loverofwords!
DeleteThanks for your visit, comment and 'Follow'. I would be more than happy if I saw any of those birds!
