Not much going on in the birding world at the moment, shall I make that trip to Shetland?

  2. Well, I can see the thistle but I don't get the reference. I have never seen a Goldfinch but at least it's one bird I would definitely recognize!

    1. Hi Bazza,
I was referring to a very rare bird that has been in the Shetlands for a while, but I think it has now gone, so I don't think that I will make the trip after all!
Goldfinch are becoming more common now, get yourself some niger seed and a feeder and you will soon get some in the garden!

  3. Lovely photos John, I have never seen them in this classic Teasel pose but planted a Teasel in the garden for that very purpose...and my husband pulled it up thinking it was a weed :-( ....I couldn't believe it...he never, ever does anything in the garden other than mow the grass!!

They are very welcome and regular visitors to my garden feeders though. Such colourful little birds.

Please ignore any other comments I may have sent on this post...blogger was being awkward and wouldn't put it through!

    1. Thanks Jan,
Naughty husband of yours! Has he not heard of 'a weed is just a flower in the wrong place'? At least you get them coming into your garden, I used to get quite a few, but there is only 2 coming now, don't know where the others have gone?
Haven't received received any other comments, so can't ignore them! ;)

  4. Do it John.

Lovely to see these on Teasels. I'm like Jan, planted some in the garden; thankfully her other half didn't pull them up. lol

    1. Hi Keith,
I am still not sure, can I justify the expense? No, not really, how depressing!
I haven't got any teasels in the garden, although I leave everything else to go to seed, I have yet to see any birds feeding on the seed heads, perhaps I shouldn't put some much 'bought' seed out!

  5. Hi John,

Oh yes, the Goldfinch. What magnificent colours and lovely to see such a positive distraction. And if it feels right in your heart, I think that your journey could be most therapeutic. My friend, you need a break.

I wish to thank you for your kindness, understanding and support on my site. Greatly appreciated.

A peaceful weekend to you, kind sir.

    Gary :)

    1. Hi Gary,
Many thanks my friend. I would really love to go, but as I have said above, I really cannot justify the expense. It is getting to the point when food is becoming a luxury!
As I have said before, my support will always be there for you.
