Short-eared Owl at Eldernell, Cambridgeshire

One of 4 Short-eared Owls that were present yesterday evening at the RSPB site at Eldernell in Cambridgeshire. A pretty ropey effort when compared with others, but as yet, my 'best' effort. I will return again to photograph these beauties, but the area in question is getting pretty busy with photographers from all over the place at the moment, leading to no room at the prime viewpoint!

  7. What splendid birds these are - we don't have any owl that behave like SE's here - shame really!

Used to watch them in Co Durham.

  8. Fab photos! I would be extremely happy to take any of these wonderful birds. I still haven't ever seen one, let alone 4! I have a trip to suffolk planned soon so maybe that'll change then, I hope! Lovely pics. p.s I enjoy your first quote by Rory McGrath - love his book!

    1. Thanks Lou Mary! It seems to be quite a good year for SEO's as there have been up to 9 of these birds seen at any one time at Eldernell. I think there is a place in Suffolk called Orford Ness which is a good place for them.
Glad you like the quote, it is a good book, have re-read it a number of times!
