In Flight

I have been trying to get some half-decent shots of birds flying, as of now I am yet to succeed. The shots below represent the best of my efforts so far.

A trio of Whoopers

Three Common Cranes (2 adult and 1 juvenile)

The same 3 Common Cranes (the juvenile is the bird on the right)
Hopefully, I will improve as time goes by!

  1. Hi John.
Did you Digiscope these,or was it hand held.
I see you use a Kowa Tsn 83,with Canon Power shot Sx40,what Type of attachment are you using.
    John.

    1. Hi John,
These were taken 'hand held', I don't use my SX40 to digiscope with, I have yet to find an attachment that works. When I do digiscope I am now using a Lumix camera with a home-made attachment of a piece of piping from B+Q.

No, not easy at all, but I have had some very useful tips from Roy, re Flight shots, which will hopefully help me get better results.

  6. Hi John,

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar here. Thought I would make a flying visit over to your site and marvel at your excellent attempts at photographing birds in flight. Although, I've never seen a 'crane' fly before :)

Pawsitive wishes and have a peaceful Sunday, Penny

    1. Hi Penny,
Thank you for gracing my site, It is not often that I have contact with such a superstar! Hopefully, my attempts will get better as time goes by, thanks to the tips given me by Roy.
I have seen plenty, isn't that another name for 'Daddy long legs'? (crane fly) ;)
I hope you and your master have a peaceful day too.

  7. A lot of luck needed as well John. Being in the right place and position helps but can be in the lap of the gods. Like the swan trio. The photos enlarge well.
